"SPITFIRE!" This painting depicts the Spitfire flown by Pilot Officer Peter Pease, who was shot down and killed over Maidstone on the 15th of September 1940. His remarkable bravery in his last attack on a formation of Heinkel 111s was never forgotten by Leutnant Roderich Cescotti, whose aircraft was attacked head on by the Spitfire's machine gun fire. Leutnant Cescotti recalled how even though the attack lasted only a few seconds, it demonstrated the determination and bravery with which the Tommies were fighting over their own country. May Peter's soul fly in Heaven, all of us owe our lives to men such as those. Acrylic on board. 10in. x 12in. Battle of Britain by Alfred Price & 'The Last Attack of Peter Pease' SOLD. In the collection of Mr. D. Warne of New Zealand.
