Paddle Steamer

A paddle steamer carrying passengers back from a pleasurable day out returns to harbour. Its last journey of the day, then being made ready for work on the morrow. Pleasure steamers like this were entertainment for holidaymakers many years ago, a time now sadly in the past, but remembered forever in this painting. Watercolour. 12in. x 10in. SOLD. Tug and Tower Bridge

A working tug, pictured from a moored Thames barge makes its way along the river, the outline of huge cranes beside the docks and the famous Tower bridge in the far distance. Days gone by now, but the romance of the time endures. Watercolour. 12 in. X 8 in. (30.5 cm. X 20.5 cm.) double mounted. This was purchased by another esteemed artist for a present for her husband. Inside the Barrel

A young surfer, enjoying the thrill of being inside a huge wave which is known as being inside the barrel. Much strength and balance is needed to ride such a wave, concentrating hard, a sport for the young! This was inspired when I was touring and painting in New Zealand, painted in my home studio from a few quick sketches. Acrylic on deep edge canvas. SOLD. In the private collection of Mr. Jason Read.

Spotted!

A U-Boat, on the surface to perhaps charge the batteries or stalking a merchantman is spotted by a Short Sunderland aircraft, it's position being relayed back before the aircraft makes an attack. Sudden Squall

This picture depicts the sudden peril that may affect all sailing craft, no matter how large or small, in the treacherous seas which surround south western England. The crew are struggling for their lives, with the sail being ripped from the mast by the strong wind which has engulfed them and which threatens to cast them against the sheer rocks looming above. Wreck of the River Lune

1879. The barque, River Lune, 1,172 Tons in ballast sailing from Lorient to Androssan was lost on Isinvrank on the west side of St. Agnes, north Cornwall. The crew took to their boats and landed on St. Agnes. This wreck took place on the same night as the Maipu on Bryher. Her figurehead was recovered and can be seen in the Valhalla, Tresco. The harbour at St.Ives. A delightful place, visited by many thousands of people each year.The low tide, the strong light and cast shadows making the scene even more vibrant and appealing. This painting was purchased as a birthday present for Mrs. O'Shea. She later told me that her husband had originally gone to buy her a necklace for her birthday, on his way he saw my painting in an exhibition and purchased it on the spot as it reminded him and his wife of the happy times that they had spent at St. Ives.
